"GasJacker"
Industry
Business Idea Overview
Create a one stop website portal everyone in the world can search locally for passengers and/or drivers to share rides with one another. With the rising cost of gas and emissions, this could be an ideal type of business. Sort of an "e-bay for carpooling". Make it simple: Riders only pay the Drivers what they request for gas and travel expenses and the People who Post as a Passenger or Driver pay a one time $5.00 fee to the website when they receive a match.
What makes the idea profitable, distinct or superior
The idea that any person in the world can perform a search in their local communities for carpooling drivers or passengers creates a huge demand for people that don't want to drive themselves or for drivers looking for help reducing gas and travel expenses. Everybody drives or needs to get places on a daily, weekly, seasonally, or vacation basis. Everybody is feeling the pinch at the pump and there are way too many cars on the road. This would create a global phenomenon. The pure market potential is huge and anyone hooked up with a ride or a passenger would not mind paying a nominal small fee in the range of $5.00 for this type of service.

1. You could use AdSense for website revenue. This could generate sizeable income once you have a large user base.
2. This is an online car pooling system of sorts. So, the trust factor would be a problem as people might not be comfortable in travelling with complete strangers. You might want to introduce a social networking component into it and only friends can hitch rides of each other. Also, the legal issues around such a service need to be considered.
3. Singapore would be another place where this could prove profitable.
4. Also, starting off on a small scale and then expanding would be a better option as you might find it hard to find tracking mechanisms for obscure districts/places in the world.
There are already indonesia version of these
Hai,
that is a good idea. In fact here in Indonesia the idea already implemented. it's called "nebeng" in indonesia language. Please see www.nebeng.com of course in indonesia language
confidence
there are lots of online scams, spammers, tricksters, pranksters or whatever you called them... so if you want to have a global car pool communities that give people the confidence, then you should really have some ways of verification before anyone can be a member. so that not everyone can do posting as they might be killer or kidnapper or rapist etc.
gumtree.com
This idea already is funtional in the Uk and a lot of other countries through a website called gumtree.com and a lot of other websites.
Inspite of wanting to save my petrol money a lot of times while travelling I always chose to travel alone because I was not sure about the person who i would be travelling with.
The idea is brilliant tho.
could be incorporated all over the world.
cheers

1.The trust factor plays a very big role in this kind of service.
2.Especially if a women wants to travel with someone she should have a complete idea of the person she is travelling with.
3.Great Idea though and would be very successful if all this issues are taken well care of.
Also in Germany
The idea is also successfully working in Germany. In fact, the website earns a commission each time you offer yourself.
Let me know if you need further feedback. I've been using it several times and it works (and still didn't have any bad experience).

Like the idea - questions:
1. Why would the driver and passanger pay? Why not work off of advertising until the site gains huge momentum? Besides, it seems like the "honor system" having them pay once they find a match.
2. How owuld you determine location for rural countries? I.E. Costa Rica (No Zip Code)
This would be great in the US, especially with the gas prices increasing. I would be hesistant though. What if Driver A doesn't like the passenger or vice versa? What if the driver or passenger is a smoker? These issues have to be addressed when.
Then their is also the liability issue. What if the driver is a psycho or vice versa? Can the site be held liable sicne it enabled this? Great idea - but a few things need to be worked out first.
Ouch - that's gotta hurt!
