Business Idea Overview

The idea is to use hologram in order to show to the clients the products in an online store. The client has a small wireless terminal that projects in 3D and colors, the product that it is on sale in an online shop. Example: you are a buyer of furniture and you want a new table, you go to your best furniture supplier, download the 3d file and project the table in real size in your dinner room in the place you want it to be.
The furniture is just an example, you can display anything as long as you have "scanned" the object and transformed it into a readable file by the wireless terminal.

What makes the idea profitable, distinct or superior

The innovation of allowing the final consumer to take a real look at the product, the selling of the terminals, the scaning of the objects. At the end its a B2B and B2C business.

Question

Submitted by AmirKhan on Thu, 08/07/2008 - 21:46.

Is this technology even possible?
Is it viable? Is it feasible? I mean devoloping something like that is going to take a hell of a lot of capital, and it requires all users to buy the technology, and how often do those users want to view a object to buy?
People buy new furniture maybe once a year?

Perhaps you should digitise products and allow customers to view them on a 3D plane in screen?

Perhaps allow them to recreate there room on the 3D model and then allow them to add new furniture to see how it looks and fits.

By a research on the web you will see that a similar technology has been made already. Its a matter of developing it.
The furniture is an example, as i said on the idea description. Rings, shoes, bags, guitars, hardware...
If you want to get 3d enviroments on your screen, you may try SecondLife.com with their photo-realism system, or use one of the existing platforms for such efect.

I think you should do

Submitted by chandra on Wed, 08/27/2008 - 18:56.

I think you should do a feasibility study (specialy about financial). If you have this tech, how much will you sell? (tech, scanner, dll).
Is it affordable for small industries?

Big industries

Submitted by joaomesk on Thu, 09/04/2008 - 17:21.

This would start with the cooperation of big companies in order to distribute as many as possible. Lets say for example with the internet provider in a promotional package.
Regardless of who would be, the keyword here would be cooperation between companies. And the rest is like everything, the more you make the cheaper it gets.

Sounds fictional

Submitted by strategicsm on Tue, 09/09/2008 - 22:20.

Sounds fictional but definitely a great idea. If there is really such a device, able to project out real size object, then it would not be impossible to make it possible to project out all the furniture all at once, especially useful for a new house or those looking to rearrange the furniture etc. Great idea.

Well, for those who think

Well, for those who think that this is impossible or fictional, with all due respect, take a look at this video:

I have seen a hologram like

Submitted by kegarden on Wed, 10/01/2008 - 05:55.

I have seen a hologram like this in London, but that was only with two colors. A great idea, but it is possible? I am not sure, but isn't some mirrors in different places quite essential for this type of hologram? In that case a small terminal would not be possible... But what about using something like this in stores? Then you only needed a teminal like this, and a storage for your products (no exhibition goods)

Nice Idea ! Sugestion...

Submitted by augusto on Sat, 10/04/2008 - 05:37.

Instead projecting the product in the room (which is unavailable now) you can scan the room into the computer, and in the software "paste" the product in the client "virutal room".

Sounds nice if the interface is good enough.

3D holograms

Submitted by thaitom on Sat, 10/18/2008 - 23:06.

If that would work, it would be a revolutionary idea that might transform commerce as we know it. While I believe that some scientists have already experimented with free-standing 3D images, I don't see that to be implemented anytime soon on a large scale and cheap enough to be affordable for the average "furniture store", particularly not with a "small wireless terminal". At the moment the technology is still in its infancy and exorbitantly expensive. I nevertheless like the idea a lot!
